Post-Surgery Care

All the patients are expected to follow post-operative instructions so that optimal healing, regeneration and growth of the transplant are ensured, which are as follows :

  • The candidate should sleep with his/ her head in an elevated position at the night of the procedure so that things remain uncomplicated.
  • The head bandage is removed after the first night of the procedure. After this, normal shampooing is recommended.
  • It is advisable to take a shower twice a day in the days that follow.
  • The grafts make a solid adherence and become permanent after 10 days of the procedure.
  • Alcohol or alcoholic beverages should be avoided 3 days after the procedure.
  • One should abstain from smoking for two weeks after the procedure.
  • Sunlight should be avoided by wearing hat and 2 weeks after the procedure, one can use sunscreen with 30 or higher SPF.
  • After 3 weeks: One can have a haircut.
  • After 4 weeks: One can dye the hair.

Generally patients can resume normal daily routine almost immediately after the transplant. Light exercises can also be started.

We may ask the patient to return to the office for a follow-up visit after 10 days, but for those who lives at a distance from our facilities, this can be seamlessly handled by phone.

At around 10 weeks, the newly transplanted hair begins to grow. In 6 months, it is long enough to be groomed and in most cases, will be fully grown in one year. In the few months following hair surgery, there may be some shedding of the original hair and the transplanted hair may appear slightly thinner. You should not worry about it. All these happen before the new hair starts to grow. This is a transient phenomenon and will be automatically corrected once the new hair takes it roots and start to grow.
