General instructions

Things to take care of before the transplantation :

  • We have to make sure that contagious and deadly pathogens must not proliferate through the equipment and instruments. So, the required tests for the same will be done on the same day of the procedure, at our clinic.
  • The drugs and medicines consumed by you have a great effect on the success of the transplantation, the transplantation results and also the healing time. So, it is advised to avoid herbs, aspirin or steroid for at least a week before the procedure.
  • You should abstain from taking alcohol for at least 3 days before the surgery.
  • Hair transplantation surgeons prefer long hair to short hair for transplantation. Long hairs are always preferred for transplantation as they provide better coverage.

Things to take care of on the day of transplantation :

  • Patients wearing loose-buttoned shirts or plain shirts in general have added advantage post surgery. Since they do not require pulling their clothes right over their head, the transplanted hair remains intact and do not experience any mechanical stress, which can otherwise be caused from shirt pulling.
  • One may take breakfast before the transplantation procedure. Tea/ coffee should be absolutely avoided.
  • The concerned surgeon/ doctor should be properly informed if the patient has drug allergies to particular groups of drugs, and also if he/ she has any sickness.

Things to take care of after the transplantation :

  • Special care should be taken so that one’s head does not bump into anything, especially when getting inside a car.
  • The transplanted hair should not be touched for at least 24 to 48 hours post surgery as the grafts take this time to make a solid adherence.
  • It is highly advised to limit all sorts of strenuous exercises for at least a week after the transplant.
  • Postoperative medications, as suggested by our doctor, should be taken without fail.

Instructions for washing hair :

  • The transplanted hair can be made wet with a bowl of cool water or with a gentle stream of cool water from the shower.
  • Extra mild or baby shampoo should be lathered up, gently patted upon the transplanted area without rubbing. The shampoo can be then washed off gently.
  • One may experience itchiness in the donor or grafted area. If this occurs, few drops of pure olive oil can be applied on the area 3 to 4 times a day.
